| Finding out about events |
|
One must be constantly on the look out for events around town. Due to a lack of funding, advertising is often minimal and seems to take place the week of the event. If you blink, you could miss it! To get an idea of what's out there, buy the Cyprus Weekly which is the only weekly English newspaper. It comes out on Fridays. There's a supplement that changes weekly with it. The Choices supplement will be most helpful about upcoming events. Also, buy the Sunday Mail - this is the Sunday version of the English daily, the Cyprus Mail . It also comes with a supplement which is also quite helpful about upcoming events. You can also find out about events from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation Sign up for their newsletter and have events delivered to your email (in theory. In practice, these emails are infrequent). Keep an eye out for the monthly booklet published by the Nicosia Municipality which is also available (sometimes with a slight lag) on their website. Check out cyprusevents.net frequently. I restrict the search to Nicosia only as I find the site difficult to browse. They also have an email newsletter (and it's quite regular!) which I recommend. And I actually prefer their Twitter account to browsing the website. Along the same vein as cyprusevents.net is onthisisland.com I also find this website difficult to browse. They do have some good articles though. And one mustn't forget about Access Arts - the independent guide to Cyprus Arts and Creative Industries. Interested in new age things? Check out Cyprus Spirit for a very basic list of upcoming events. Last but not least, join the nh4cy yahoo group as events are posted there as well! |
